Within the last couple of years, New Zealand businesses have experienced a surge in ram-raids, a type of burglary in which a heavy vehicle is driven into the windows or doors of a building to allow perpetrators to loot it. Since 2020, the number of ram-raids occurring each year has quadrupled, causing major concern for retail businesses across New Zealand. In response to the phenomenon, business owners have sought to upgrade their existing security systems, which typically rely on manpower to monitor and review video streams.
