Overview

South Security Limited (we, our or us) is a supplier of security systems including Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) security cameras. Our CCTV cameras may be hired out to customers for use at their sites and collect personal information. We are committed to protecting the privacy of personal information that may be collected by our CCTV cameras.

This CCTV privacy policy outlines how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information through the operation of CCTV cameras operated for our clients.

How we collect personal information

We may collect personal information through CCTV cameras installed at one of our customer’s sites.  At the site we will display signage advising CCTV cameras are operating.

The type of personal information we collect

The type of personal information that we may collect about you from the CCTV cameras include visual and audio recordings.

The purpose for using CCTV to collect personal information

We collect personal information through CCTV cameras for our customers who need CCTV for purposes including to:

  • actively deter crime;
  • mitigate the risk of and/or damage from criminal incidents;
  • keep people and property safe;
  • capture factual evidence of criminal behaviour and to assist in any investigation; and
  • monitor health and safety and detect any safety incidents.

We do not use CCTV cameras to:

  • monitor bathroom facilities or changing rooms;
  • monitor a specific person;
  • gather information to intentionally intrude on the privacy of individuals.

How we use, and may share, your personal information

The personal information gathered by us from the CCTV cameras will be shared with our customer who engaged us to provide the CCTV cameras and that customer will be entitled to use the personal information for the purposes mentioned above. We will ensure that our customer also has a privacy policy to protect your personal information.

We and/or our customer may also disclose personal information to:

  • our service providers (including our hosting providers);
  • law enforcement agencies, government agencies or other third parties, if legal required;
  • third parties where necessary as part of preventing and/or investigating any potential, suspected or actual breaches of law or anti-social behaviour.

Security of personal information collected by CCTV

Information collected by CCTV is protected by industry standard security safeguards against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, use, modification, or disclosure.

Access to the personal information will be restricted to ours and our customer’s authorised staff who require access as part of the purposes mentioned above.

Information collected by CCTV will be password protected and only persons authorised to access the information will be granted a password.

How you can access/amend your personal information

If you wish to:

  • enquire as to whether we hold personal information about you; or
  • access any personal information we hold about you; or
  • request a correction to your personal information that we hold,

We reserve the right to charge you a reasonable amount for providing copies of any personal information you request in order to cover our costs.

How long we hold personal information

We will only hold your personal information for as long as required to achieve the purposes mentioned above and this will be no longer than six months.
